Sambucus nigra 'Black Lace' 17cm

A striking ornamental elder prized for its deeply cut, almost black-purple foliage that contrasts beautifully with delicate pink-tinged flat flower heads in early summer, followed by dark red-black berries in autumn. The finely divided leaves give a fern-like, elegant texture that sets it apart from the species. A brilliant architectural addition to mixed borders or as a specimen shrub.

Size: Eventual height and spread of 2–3m, can be hard pruned each spring to maintain smaller size

Growing conditions: Prefers full sun to partial shade for best foliage colour, in any moist but well-drained soil. Fully hardy throughout the UK. Tolerant of a wide range of conditions, including clay and chalky soils. Can be hard-pruned in late winter to maintain a more compact size and encourage vibrant new foliage.
